About Your Therapist

I recognize the challenge that one faces when trying to find the right counselor/therapist!  Sharing your story with another person takes tremendous courage and vulnerability.  I applaud you and admire your courage for taking this step.

Counseling is my second career.  I spent over a decade working in higher education after earning my first Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration. My work in higher education was fulfilling, but I truly desired to connect further with others and gain new knowledge and skills to promote healing for individuals, couples and families.  That led me to seek advanced training in Marriage and Family Therapy at Regis University.

In additional to my education at Regis University, I have completed the following advanced trainings:

  • EMDR Basic Training – and integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy:Facilitator Training – a support orientated, collaborative, cognitive based treatment method emphasizing mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Gottman Couple Therapy, Level 1 Certification – a structured, goal-oriented, scientifically-based therapy that helps couples achieve a healthy, long term relationship.
  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy Externship – a structured approach to couples therapy based on the science of adult attachment.

I approach my work from a trauma informed, attachment oriented and strengths based focus.  This means I believe that each individual in the therapy room has a unique story, characterized by personal experiences, past and current relationships and their family history.  I believe that behaviors are adaptive, meaning they have served a specific purpose for you/your family/your child, and we will work together to discover what need this behavior is fulfilling.  I work with all clients to learn your story, understand your needs and develop a healing therapeutic relationship.

In my spare time, I treasure the time I spend with my husband and children.  I enjoy reading, being outside and loving on all my pets (3 dogs and 3 cats!).
